The adult got it right: now the child checks how the words join

An adult’s correct answer leaves a check for the child

In Alicia’s described family mode, a correct adult answer is not a cue to rush ahead: the child then checks how the syllables join. Leave room to look at the end of the previous word and the start of the new one, rather than answering on the child’s behalf.

That division of roles belongs to the presented game: the child chooses from three picture-and-syllable cards, while the adult chooses from six text cards. The cooperative chain has ten links. Alicia remains in development for Android, with no public download.

A join you can explain

This example was created for the guide; it does not claim these words appear among the application’s cards. Imagine that the visible word is casa and the adult has selected sapo.

  • Casa divides into ca-sa: find sa at the end.
  • Sapo divides into sa-po: find sa at the beginning.
  • The join to check is sa → sa. You do not need to match the whole words or look for similar pictures.

A possible adult prompt is: “Which part can you see at the end of casa? And at the start of sapo?” This is an authored conversation suggestion, not a line the application will necessarily speak or an answer to demand.

When the adult explains too quickly

You can wait before pointing out the syllable. If the child wants help, show one part first and then return to the other. Do not turn this pause into a timed test: the Alicia facts page describes a game without timers, lives or scores, and with optional audio.

If you continue with pomo, the reference changes: sapo ends in po, and pomo starts with po. Next, pomo → mono joins mo → mo. These are new joins in the example; do not keep searching for the old sa every turn.

What to check before continuing

Check which word has just become visible, which syllable ends it and which begins the next word. Adults can also explain incorrectly: read the words again instead of treating an adult’s confidence as the rule.

This proposal explains the checking role within family mode; it does not establish an educational benefit or an already downloadable release. Keep the words in Spanish: translating casa or sapo changes their syllables and breaks this example. Explore both modes and their actual availability in the Alicia overview.
