Hacha continues with cha: the letter h does not add a turn to your Alicia chain

Alicia’s word chains ask for the last syllable, rather than whichever letter catches your eye. The last syllable of the Spanish word “hacha” is “cha”. A possible continuation to discuss is “chaleco”, which starts with “cha” and ends with “co”.

Alicia links one word’s final syllable to the next word’s first syllable. We created this example for a family conversation. It is not a recorded game or a promise that these words appear among its cards.

An initial h, two syllables

Say “hacha” slowly: ha-cha. The initial h is silent in this word, although it remains in the written spelling. You do not need to say the letter’s name as another link or remove it to continue.

Now look at the ending “cha”. The c and h form “ch” here; do not split that ending into letters that take separate turns. You need a word starting with the syllable “cha”.

Try this route

Our example is hacha → chaleco → comida:

  • Ha-cha links to cha-le-co.
  • Cha-le-co links to co-mi-da.
  • After comida, the next search would start with “da”.

An adult can say both words while the child points to the link. If someone suggests “casa” after hacha, listen to the ending again: “ca” does not reproduce “cha”. Checking the link does not need to become a race.

Connecting it to Alicia’s proposed game

In family mode, the child has three illustrated cards with syllables; the adult has six text cards. The child checks the link after each correct adult turn. Use that check to look at the syllables actually shown, rather than choosing by the first letter or by an object resembling an illustration.

If a word in this example is not among the available options, it can still help you discuss the link, but it does not create a new in-game card. Words remain visible and audio is optional, so you can read together at your own pace.

It is a game proposal without guaranteed educational outcomes. We keep the example words in Spanish here: translating them would change the syllables that make the route work.
